OUR STORY

Craftsmanship, quality and beauty is the hallmark of a Dennett restored craft. Priding ourselves on the good name which we have built up for over 65 years, we use time honoured techniques, passed from father to son, to restore historic vessels.

Dennett  Boat Builders established in 1962 is a  family run business  and are dedicated to the traditional methods of boat building and joinery  keeping alive an age-old tradition rarely seen in today’s modern society.

HERITAGE

Michael started in this trade when he was 15 as a general assistant at Horace Clarke's Boatyard in Sunbury. Michael was then offered an apprenticeship at Walton Yacht. His apprenticeship was finally completed at George Wilsons yard back in Sunbury.

By the age of 22  (after a few sizeable private weekend jobs) Michael became self-employed, initially working out of the back of a van.

As his reputation grew he rented a shed, before launching his own yard in 1988 with son Stephen.

"Lady Betty continues to tell her tale because of the extreme care, attention to detail and fine craftsmanship at Dennett Shipyards. Thank you to Stephen for your consummate vision and dedication"

FATHER & SON

Michael jokes he started teaching Stephen boat building when he was 2 years old, and its not that much of an exaggeration. Stephen was obsessed with boats and boat building as a child and spent every opportunity he could soaking in his Fathers knowledge. Leaving school at 15 there was no doubt of Stephens path which laid ahead.

Five years after leaving school and working alongside his Father they ventured into an investment of a lifetime, their own yard together .

Laleham Boatyard has been the site of Dennetts ever since

"I have witnessed their tireless quest for perfection and have always found them a joy to deal with, both on a personal level and in the quality of work"
