(Michael Dennett)

Michael Dennett Boat Builders have been established for over 50 years. This family run business is dedicated to the traditional methods of boat building and joinery. Between father and son there is over 75 years of experience restoring, maintaining and building new beautiful traditional crafts, keeping alive an age-old tradition rarely seen in today’s modern society.

Michael started in this trade when he was 15 as a general assistant at Horace Clarke's Boatyard in Sunbury. Michael was then offered an apprenticeship at Walton Yacht. He learnt his trade on producing 72ft MTBs (motor torpedo boats) for the Royal Navy, his apprenticeship was finally completed at George Wilsons yard back in Sunbury. By the age of 22 (after a few sizeable private weekend jobs) Michael became self-employed, initially working out of the back of a van. As his reputation grew he rented a shed, before launching his own yard in 1988 with son Stephen who inherited his father's expertise working with timber.

From the riverside yard at Chertsey they care for a wide range of vintage vessels, from small crafts such as slipper and Gibbs launches to much larger vessels, including a number of boats from the much respected Dunkirk Little Ship fleet.
